IThe Regional Council of Campania, chaired by Gennaro Oliviero, has unanimously approved the bill to the Chambers pursuant to Article 121 of the Constitution, at the initiative of the President of the Regional Council Vincenzo De Luca, containing "Provisions regarding access to university courses in the health area" for the abolition of the restricted number of places for access to the Faculty of Medicine.
The measure was introduced for consideration by the Council by the president of the 1st permanent council commission, Giuseppe Sommese, who said: “The lack of human resources in our healthcare facilities emerged forcefully during Covid and is still a serious problem, often linked to the current limitation of access to medical school.
This bill is aimed at abolishing the limitations on access to university courses in the health area in order to strengthen the National Health Service by increasing the number of health professions and to overcome the social discomfort connected to the regime of programmed access to university courses in the health area. A topic on which the majority and opposition have shown great sensitivity and agreement”.
The proposed law provides that, starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, access to university courses in medicine and surgery, veterinary medicine, dentistry and dental prosthetics, as well as to university courses concerning the training of nursing, technical and rehabilitation health personnel and to specialist degree courses in health professions is free.
