He had waited until nightfall to steal over 300 kilos of peaches from a private plot of land in the hamlet of Sant'Andrea del Pizzone, in the municipality of Francolise, in the province of Caserta.
But the 56-year-old from Casal di Principe was caught red-handed by the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Mondragone Territorial Department.
The military personnel, who immediately arrived following the report received on the emergency number "112", surprised the man while he was continuing to pick the peaches, surrounded by numerous boxes already filled, some of which had already been loaded onto his car.
The Carabinieri stopped the 56-year-old and accompanied him to the Sant'Andrea del Pizzone Carabinieri station where he was reported in a state of freedom. He will have to answer for aggravated theft. The recovered fruit was returned to its rightful owner.
