Overcrowding due to the simultaneous presence of students, commuters, and tourists. This is the "justification" provided by Eav regarding the inconvenience suffered today at the Vico Equense station by users of the Circumvesuviana who were travelling from NAPLES to the Sorrento peninsula.
In a press release regarding the incident, the transport company first reconstructs what happened this morning, explaining that a first train headed to Sorrento "interrupted its journey at 7:27 a.m. due to overcrowding, which prevented the doors from closing. The train then restarted after 54 minutes.
The next train arrived at Vico station about 20 minutes late. It was unable to continue its journey to Sorrento because all the emergency handles were unsealed. The train therefore had to return to the workshop for maintenance, further disrupting traffic.
According to the Volturno Autonomous Authority, "law enforcement had to intervene and two buses were made available to facilitate the situation."

In light of what happened, EAV management has planned the following additional measures: starting tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, an additional service has been activated, on an experimental basis, with two buses: departing at 7:30 a.m. from Vico Equense (Vesuviana station) and heading to Sorrento, with intermediate stops in Meta, Piano, and Sant'Agnello. The buses are dedicated to students. At the same time, the rolling stock composition will be reinforced where possible.
In the press release, the company "highlights that, despite September being almost over, the Sorrento route is still experiencing a very high tourist presence, which, combined with school and work commutes, has complicated the management of the service, with demand exceeding transport capacity.
It's clear that more trains are needed, more frequently. This will be possible with the new Stadler trains currently under construction, with Alstom's new railway signaling, and with the doubling and elimination of level crossings in residential areas.
