An inmate returning from day release was discovered to be in possession of 1,1 kilograms of hashish, 100 grams of cocaine and 27 cell phones thanks to the nose of the drug-sniffing dog Spike of the Avellino Detachment of the Penitentiary Police.
The drugs were hidden inside the shoes and in the private parts of the prisoner. During further checks, four scales for weighing the narcotic substance, 27 cell phones with chargers and numerous SIM cards, which were intended, like the drugs, for sale, were also found and seized.
The president and the regional secretary of the Uspp, Giuseppe Moretti and Ciro Auricchio, applaudedthe regional dog unit of the Avellino detachment for the successful operation.
“The tricks used to introduce drugs and cell phones into prisons are becoming increasingly sophisticated,” the two unionists commented.
“We have often denounced the need to provide the prison police with technologically advanced tools, as well as human and material resources to combat this phenomenon which is becoming a real plague in the prison system”.
Moretti and Auricchio concluded by requesting the revocation of any benefits granted to prisoners involved in this type of crime.
