“Tomorrow morning, around 12 o’clock, citizens in the Campania region will also receive a message on their cell phones with a different sound than usual.

This is the testing of the national public warning system, called IT-alert and promoted by the National Department of Civil Protection".

This was announced in a note from the Campania Region which reiterates that this is only a test and that the “citizens will only have to read the message and fill out a questionnaire which will be completely anonymous”.

The system, already tested in Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily, Calabria and Emilia Romagna, will be tested tomorrow, in addition to Campania, also in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Marche.

Then, gradually, it will be the turn of the other Regions. Once fully operational, and therefore the experimental phase is over, IT-alert will allow citizens to be informed about: tsunami generated by an earthquake; collapse of a large dam; volcanic activity (Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei, Vulcano, Stromboli); nuclear accidents or radiological emergency situations; major accidents in industrial plants (legislative decree 105/2015); heavy rainfall.

The messages do not include earthquakes and bradyseism, the note specifies. For further information, please visit the national IT-alert system website at https://www.it-alert.it/it/
