The famous Colombian sculptor and painter Fernando Botero has died at the age of 91.
A hallmark of his painting is the unusual expansion his subjects undergo, which take on unusual, almost unreal forms, yet possess their own charm. But this is a necessary step to fully understand the need for color in his works. The artist reveals himself to be substantially distant from his subjects.
And it is precisely this coldness that makes the moral and psychological dimension disappear from the characters.

After several trips between New York and Bogotá, he settled permanently in New York in 1966, where he immersed himself in tireless work, seeking above all to develop the influence Rubens was gradually taking on in his research, especially in his use of plastic forms. Around the early 70s, he began creating his first sculptures.
Exhibitions in Germany and the USA brought him success. He subsequently traveled between New York, Colombia, and Europe, holding exhibitions in the Big Apple and his native Bogotá.
