Two years after their arrest on September 24, 2021, Brescia prosecutor Caty Bressanelli requested a life sentence for the so-called 'criminal trio', consisting of sisters Paola and Silvia Zani and Mirto Milani.
The three were charged with the murder of Laura Ziliani, a former traffic warden from Temù (Brescia) and mother of the two defendants.
The murder took place on May 8, 2021: the victim was stunned with benzodiazepines, suffocated, and finally buried near the river in the village in the upper Valle Camonica, in the Brescia area, where the body was discovered on August 8, 2021.
Prosecutor Caty Bressanelli stated: "We are faced with three defendants who admit their guilt and who were perfectly capable of understanding and willing.

However, we must approach this situation as a murder trial and we must not allow ourselves to be influenced by the emotional dynamics of the defendants. Our assessment must be legal and not ethical or moral.
It's clear that their intention to kill the victim had been undecided for several months. They didn't hesitate to kill Mrs. Ziliani, even though she was the only support figure for their youngest daughter, who has health problems and needed her mother's help. They committed the murder the day before Mother's Day, and all of this makes the episode even more horrific.
The prosecutor then concluded his request by asking for life imprisonment for the three defendants.
