“I legati delle tenebre – Inganni” by Francesca Caizzi is the first volume of a dark urban fantasy trilogy with a detective story background; Maximilian Lawrence Hamilton, known simply as Max, is the protagonist of this gripping novel: a charismatic but also arrogant and rough man (in appearance), very impulsive and tormented by a dark past. Max hides an unspeakable secret that could compromise all his interpersonal relationships, and is the reason why he lives with guilt and harbors a destructive rage inside himself; this cancer of the soul is ultimately a strong point: his fury gives rise to captivating fight scenes that leave you breathless. He is ready to do anything, even sacrifice his life to make good triumph over the terrible evil that afflicts the city of Vancouver. Max is an interesting character precisely because he is always dangerously close to the dark side, so much so that he is sometimes a hero and sometimes an anti-hero; in reality, each character outlined by the author has his or her shadows, which do not always balance out with their bright sides.
Francesca Caizzi is skilled in creating a fast-paced story full of twists and turns with the typical elements of the detective novel, and at the same time in perfectly fitting into the urban fantasy genre, delivering an emotionally engaging story where there is no lack of light romance nuances. One of the aspects of the work that most strikes the reader is the careful characterization of the characters, each of whom has a distinct voice and a solid background; Max is certainly the central figure but the characters who gravitate around him are no less important and who form a secret task force with him: the Omega Squad. Over the years, Max has recruited and trained an exceptional group, on the front lines in the fight against threats from the world of darkness; some of his allies are human, like Daniel, but there are also half-demons, like Oliver and Henry, and a powerful witch, Maya: an appreciated and symbolic tribute by the author to the importance of collaboration and interracial dialogue.
Armed with courage and his trusty Desert Eagle pistol, Max and his team fight against a spreading evil force, while also confronting his own personal demons, risking losing his humanity forever and losing those he loves.

SYNOPSIS OF THE WORK
There is something beyond the world we see. Darkness creeps into the lives of men, threatening them without them realizing it. Max knows it. He has been chasing and hunting the creatures of the underworld for more than a lifetime, fleeing from the demons that grip his soul. In a Vancouver unaware of the creatures that infest it, a new threat looms on the scene, forcing Max and his Omega Squad to intervene. He will soon be forced to confront the past, reveal buried secrets and deal with the consequences of a deal made with the Devil himself.
AUTHOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Francesca Caizzi, an author from Foggia, teaches creative writing and comic book scriptwriting at the Gulliver Comics School and is part of the organization of the Festival del Nerd. Her debut novel, "FANGO," was published by Edizioni Inkiostro at Lucca Comics & Games 2017, with art by Francesco Paciaroni and Stefano Brandetti. Since 2018, she has worked for Gemma Edizioni as an editor and proofreader. She has edited several publications, including the first in the "Quindiciventidue" series, which deals with femicide in Italy; since June 2023, she has also edited a fantasy series. In 2020, the first novel in a dark urban fantasy trilogy, "I legami delle tenebre – Inganni" (Darkness Ties Saga), was published by Plesio Editore. Darkness Ties has also been adapted into a TV series; The pilot episode script was a quarterfinalist at the Final Draft - Big Break (2022) and a finalist at the Filmmatic TV Pilot Awards Season 7 and the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards (2022-23). Comic books and a video game related to the saga are also in development. Since December 2022, he has been working as a game writer for Yuniro Srl. In 2023, he created La forgia delle parole with Valerie Notari and is part of the Codraux Method, a collective of editors serving authors. He is currently working on novels, graphic novels, and illustrated books to be released in 2023/2024.
