Around a hundred residents of the Naples facility participated in the action, with the slogan "Hands off the funds for demolition and construction of new housing."

In a note, the Committee stated: “Shortly before the summer break, the Meloni Government presented to Brussels the plan for the reorganization of the interventions financed with the resources of the restart and resilience plan, cutting some very important projects, including those concerning the sails of Scampia.

The Sails Committee denounces the government's words as propaganda and empty rhetoric. According to them, the executive has intentionally chosen to reduce the resources intended to restore dignity to thousands of people who have the right to live in a dignified home".

The Sails Committee "will not tolerate delays or uncertainties in the timetable for the work to remove the sails, so it is essential that the PNRR resources remain funded. The plan provides for certain and tight deadlines for the completion of the works. We ask the government for clarity and transparency".

Scampia, in recent years, has gone from being a place of marginality and degradation to a model of civic participation for decisions on the future of the territory. The government, according to the Committee, is committing a real robbery to the detriment of the citizens who have obtained these resources thanks to their determination and courage, countering the prejudice that has weighed on their heads for years".

"We stand in solidarity with the Vele Committees of Scampia. Their protest is our protest," said Claudio Marotta, group leader of the Green Left Alliance in the Lazio regional council.

“The movement's activists are protesting to ask for a meeting with Minister Fitto, to verify the actual availability of the PNRR funds earmarked for the redevelopment of Scampia. The right-wing government is implementing cuts that put the suburbs at risk. The situation does not change from Naples to Rome, for example with Tor Bella Monaca, Corviale or the PNRR funds earmarked for the province of Latina.

The protest of the committees is our protest that we will bring as the Green and Left Alliance to all institutional venues", concluded Marotta.

“I stand in solidarity with the just protest of the Comitato Vele di Scampia, which demonstrated today in Rome against the reduction of PNRR funds earmarked for the redevelopment of the suburbs. Minister Fitto’s decision to cut 16 billion from the PNRR affects interventions in the urban suburbs.

Eliminating funds for small works, Integrated Urban Programs and urban regeneration interventions is senseless. In Naples alone, the reduction will be 120 million, and the redevelopment and urban regeneration projects of the suburbs, starting with Scampia, will suffer the consequences.

In this way, the Meloni government condemns the suburbs to infinite marginality. In the next few days, I will ask for a meeting with Minister Fitto to obtain a commitment that the funds cut for the redevelopment of the suburbs and the redevelopment of the Vele di Scampia have secure and certain financing lines.

The government cannot ignore the cries of alarm from the citizens of Vele”, declared Peppe De Cristofaro, group leader of the Green and Left Alliance after a meeting with representatives of the Scampia Sails Committee.

“I met a delegation from the Comitato Vele di Scampia, which came to Rome to express concern about possible cuts to PNRR funds that could jeopardize projects for the neighborhood.

They explained the situation to me, and I can only share their concerns. In Naples and other cities, some projects financed with PNRR funds have been completed according to the timescales set by local administrations, and in some cases construction sites have already begun, as in Scampia.

At this time, it is essential to have certainty about funding”, said Paolo Ciani, deputy group leader of the PD-Idp in the Chamber and secretary of Demos.

“It is clear that the interventions in the suburbs within the PNRR constitute a fundamental response awaited by citizens and the country to concretely change the life of those neighborhoods and cities.

The situation of the Vele di Scampia has been known at a national level for years, and it would be particularly serious if the planned projects were to fail. The Committee has requested a meeting with Minister Fitto, and I will follow future developments, because I am convinced that completing the redevelopment projects of the suburbs is in everyone's interest", concluded Ciani.
