On Tuesday 12 September, starting at 21pm, the 6th edition of the festival conceived and directed by Gigi Di Luca presents at the Church of Santa Maria Donnalbina (Vico Portapiccola Donnalbina, XNUMX) the performance of the trio composed of the ambassador of Persian music and Grammy winner, Kayhan Kalhor together with the setar virtuoso Kiva Tabassian and Behnam Samani.
This concert, exclusive to Italy, is a cry of hope and freedom inspired by one of the most fascinating civilizations in the world, Iran. A concert entirely composed of new works for Persian instruments that leads the audience into the heart of a rich musical history. A hymn to the richness and beauty of Iranian culture with three extraordinary musicians, bearers of its ancient traditions. Song of Hope sees on stage the sublime kamancheh master Kayhan Kalhor (co-founder of the groups Dastan and Yo-Yo Ma's Silkroad Ensemble) who dialogues with Kiya Tabassian on the setar and Behnam Samani on the tombak.
Following performances by Ayom (Angola, Brazil, Greece, Italy), Bia Ferreira (Brazil), Epi (Mongolia) and Amrat Hussain Brothers Trio (India), Ethnos' musical journey now reaches Iran with a show inspired by its age-old tradition. While the exquisite gardens of Shiraz and the mosaics of Isfahan have contributed to its legendary reputation, Iranian culture is also famous for its extraordinary musical and poetic expressions, which have always transcended the vicissitudes of history. The traditional music of Iran, unique in the East, is in fact the fruit of a mystical heritage with a fascinating capacity for constant regeneration.
The 28th edition of Ethnos, an international festival of ethnic music, is organized by La Bazzarra and financed by the Campania Region through Scabec and the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the municipalities of Ercolano, Portici, San Giorgio a Cremano, Torre Annunziata and Torre del Greco, the contribution of the Banca di Credito Popolare and with the collaboration of the Fondazione Ente Ville Vesuviane and the Department of Agriculture of the University of Naples Federico II.
Expected this year are big names in ethnic music, new realities and musicians from 12 different countries, for a great celebration of meeting, contamination and hospitality on the slopes of Vesuvius. In addition to music, the program also includes workshops, thematic events dedicated to dance and theater and the finals of the Ethnos GenerAzioni competition, aimed at artists under 35, which will close the 2023 edition of Ethnos.
