In San Mauro Cilento and Pollica the first edition dedicated to Winspeare.
The first edition of “Il Cinema del Mediterraneo” curated by Mario Martone, which will be held in the two selected municipalities, San Mauro Cilento and Pollica, is a tribute to the resilient cinema of Edoardo Winspeare.
The initiative aims to become an annual event, to give space to screenings and meetings every summer with a filmmaker from the Mediterranean. The meetings with Winspeare will be moderated by the film critic and journalist Maurizio Di Rienzo, the screenings are free admission.
The event is organized in collaboration with the mayor of Pollica Stefano Pisani, with Giuseppe Cilento of San Mauro and the Campania Region.
"I am happy to start immediately with Edoardo Winspeare, a director I have always admired and whose work has become increasingly valuable over the years, not only for its cinematic quality but also for the particularity of the film production methods. Winspeare's cinema - explains Mario Martone - has always been immersed in his Salento, since his dazzling first films 'Pizzicata' and 'Sangue vivo', but it is with his most recent works that he has developed a cinema that is not only Salento because it tells the lives of Salento, but because the films are made with an incessant exchange of vital relationships with the territory, a real barter, in its most noble and ancient meaning.
Nothing more interesting to show in our Cilento, where the constant theme is precisely the relationship with the territory, between towns and nature, vital issues for a South exhausted by the relationship with a modernity that is too often violent in various ways”. It begins this evening, at 19 pm, with the screening of the film “La vita in Comune” by Edoardo Winspeare, in the council chamber of San Mauro Cilento, in the presence of the director, the leading actress Celeste Casciaro and Mario Martone. The film shows on the screen the municipal council of the small town of Disperata (aka Depressa, where Winspeare was born and where he lives), and will be screened in the Council Chamber of San Mauro Cilento.
Second appointment tomorrow, Friday 15 September at 19:30 pm, where the public will be welcomed in the Castello dei Principi di Capano di Pollica, for the screening of “In Grazia di Dio” by the same director, a powerful contemporary fresco that tells the story of four women from the same family, who after closing their family business crushed by debt and competition, reinvent their lives and, rediscovering ancestral values such as the sense of family, community, work in the fields and barter, return to living “in grace of God”, according to the words of the spectator Danila Belfiore on “My movies”.
“Two great opportunities for the spectators of Cilento to meet, between realities that have many things in common”, concludes Martone who over the years has chosen Cilento as the set for some of his films.
