A large fire has been raging since yesterday afternoon at the Gesia waste treatment plant in Pastorano, in the province of Caserta.
Mainly plastic material caught fire, which caused a dense cloud of black and highly toxic smoke. Three teams of the Caserta Fire Department intervened to put out the fire and contain the flames (from the central headquarters of the Command, from the Marcianise detachment and from the Teano one), six tankers, also from Naples and Salerno and a ladder truck.
The mayor of Pignataro Maggiore, as well as president of the Province, Giorgio Magliocca, intervened on the episode, speaking of a "serious environmental disaster for the entire Caleno countryside. In addition to the fact that the collection of the wet part of the waste could be blocked"
