Since the first light of day, a Canadair and a helicopter have been flying over the skies of Torre del Greco, where since yesterday evening a series of fires have been underway that are affecting a vast area located near the protected areas of the Vesuvius National Park.
According to what we learn from the leaders of some volunteer associations that have been operating in the areas where the flames developed all night (the extinguishing operations are coordinated by the Dos, director of extinguishing operations, of the Campania Region.
Since yesterday, teams of firefighters and regional civil protection have been at work, with the support of local associations, law enforcement and municipal police), there are three fronts, in the area of the so-called Lavione, in via San Fodero (where it was necessary to provide assistance also to the residents of the houses near the flames) and in the Fosso Bianco area.
It is precisely in this area in particular that the greatest attention is being concentrated in these hours, given that the other two fronts are limited and almost completely extinguished. An initial estimate by volunteer associations speaks of at least 3.000 square meters of land and wooded areas affected by the fires.
The operations were complicated, especially yesterday evening, by the wind that blew in the Vesuvian area, which in fact further fueled the flames. Regional and municipal authorities are also present on site.
