“Yet another human life lost at work in the maritime and port sector”. Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti jointly denounced what happened on a ship docked at the Port of Salerno.

“We join in the grief of the young worker’s family, struck by the grave loss, to whom we express all our closeness and solidarity,” they underline. “For years,” the three trade unions affirm, “we have been asking to keep our guard up and pay attention to accidents in the maritime and port sector where much more needs to be done with respect to the issue of health and safety, strengthening the system of protection and controls.”

“From this point of view, we denounce how serious it is that the necessary regulations have not been issued to allow the coordination of laws 271 and 272 of 1999 with the discipline of legislative decree 81/2008 on the Stop-Work Authority. It is also necessary to increase information and training in all workplaces through the involvement and participation of company and site RLSs.

It is essential that maritime work and port operations are carried out in full compliance with procedures, with particular attention to the risks due to interference that occurs when multiple companies work in the same place”.

“We call on all the competent institutions and authorities – the three trade unions finally state – to initiate a permanent discussion to achieve a radical change of direction on the issue of health and safety, so that the objective of eliminating deaths at work becomes an imperative for all”.
