Last night at 4.28 am a magnitude 2.3 earthquake was felt in the Campi Flegrei area.

The event occurred at a depth of about 2 kilometers and was felt by most of the population of the Phlegraean municipalities and the neighboring cities of Naples.

And a few hours later the expected It-Alert message arrived on the cell phones of all citizens of Campania.

The alarm at 12 o'clock was set on cell phones by IT-alert, the national public warning system, which was in its dress rehearsal today in Campania. A loud acoustic signal was accompanied by a message specifying that it was only a test. There was a lot of curiosity among citizens on the streets.

Citizens today will only have to read the message and fill out a questionnaire that will be completely anonymous. The public warning system that has already been tested in Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily, Calabria, Emilia Romagna, has now been tested also in Campania.

Once fully operational, after the experimental phase across the entire national territory, IT-alert will allow citizens to be informed in cases of serious emergencies. These are the types of risk that may be included in the alerts once the tests are completed: tsunami generated by an earthquake; collapse of a large dam.

Volcanic activity (Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei, Vulcano, Stromboli); nuclear accidents or radiological emergency situations; major accidents in industrial plants (legislative decree 105/2015); heavy rainfall. Earthquakes and bradyseism are not included in the messages.
