The hunt is on for the lone bandit who attempted to rob elderly art teacher Angela Marello on Saturday evening as she was leaving church in Marcianise.
The 82-year-old woman fought back and fell, hitting her head hard on the pavement. She is currently in intensive care at Caserta Hospital.
The news was shared on social media by former mayor and journalist Antonello Velardi. "Doctors say they need to wait for the cerebral hemorrhage to progress. Everyone hopes he can overcome this very critical phase," Velardi wrote.
He then added: "The family appeals to anyone who saw, heard, or encountered the fleeing criminal: investigators need evidence to identify the perpetrator of this very serious, cowardly act.

The value and sense of a community are also measured in this way: rebelling with action, beyond words. Who knows, contact the family (Tetart Caserta) or go to the police. This is the appeal I feel like making, that I would have made as a first citizen.
I'm no longer mayor; for a moment—just for a moment—I'll take the place of the current mayor, Antonio Trombetta, who also reassured us with a post about a security document he must sign at the prefecture. I'll take the liberty of saying what he would have said but didn't have the presence of mind to do.
Beyond the bureaucratic details (I signed two security documents when I was in office), I think I understand his thinking: anyone who saw it should speak up and report it. Be a citizen to the fullest."
