A 57-year-old Norwegian man has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison by Sweden's Warmland Court.
The charges against him include fraud, forgery of documents and violation of civil liberties, as he kept the body of his partner, also Norwegian, in the freezer and continued to collect her pension.
The man, a resident of Arjang, located about 340 kilometers from Stockholm, told investigators that he found his partner dead in their home and then placed her in the freezer, which he also used to store food. The body was discovered in March, but the man had told relatives and friends that the woman was still alive.
The court found that the man deliberately concealed the death of his partner in order to continue receiving his pension from Norway and to obtain a tax refund related to his deceased partner. This fraud was quantified at a sum of 1,3 million kronor, or approximately 109 thousand euros, according to the charges.
Furthermore, regarding the falsification of documents, the court emphasized that the man carried out changes of ownership and registrations of vehicles using the name of his deceased partner.
