Giuseppa Salerno, a grandmother from the Rione Sanità, has died: she was 112 years old

Il Rione Sanità weeps Joseph Salerno, a centenarian who turned 100 this summer . The sad announcement was made by his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all his relatives. Today, September 27, the funeral took place, starting from his home in via Cristallini and arriving at the Church of Santa Maria ai Vergini in Napoli where the funeral was held.

Born in 1911 a NapoliSalerno celebrated its 110th birthday in June 2021, also receiving homage from the then mayor Luigi de Magistris.

The elderly woman leaves behind five children, 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren after a life that saw her experience the First and Second World Wars, the Spanish Flu epidemic, an eruption of Vesuvius, and finally the Covid pandemic.

This year too, in the month of June, the centenarian celebrated her 112th birthday in the Rione Sanità with her family and many grandchildren, receiving a special cake as a gift from the pastry chef Ciro Poppella, who in previous years had already created sweets in honour of her grandmother.
