The Caserta Chamber Orchestra conducted by Antonino Cascio and with the flautist Mario Bruno (in 2022 First Prize at the Kobe International Flute Competition and Second Prize at the Ard-Musikwettbewerb in Munich, two of the most important international flute competitions) will perform pieces that are symbols of the musical architecture of the eighteenth century: the Symphony No. 77 in B flat major by Franz Joseph Haydn; the Concerto in D major for flute and orchestra KV 314 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a witty Sifonia by Antonio Sacchini, the latter reviewed with excessive severity by Vanvitelli, but whose judgment fully reflects his conception of art: “The opera at San Carlo was held on Saturday evening, with the King in attendance. Andromache was performed, with bad music by a certain Sacchini. These people compose for the Teatrocci de Fiorentini theaters and then presume to know how to compose for royal operas...”.
The concert, which is part of the Caserta Chamber Orchestra's project for the Vanvitellian Celebrations, will be held as a preview on Friday 22 September, at 20.30:XNUMX pm in Aversa, at the Church of the SS. Trinità, as part of the segment "Vanvitelli beyond the Royal Palace", which offers concerts in locations in Terra di Lavoro that preserve testimonies, references or Vanvitellian ancestry.
The "Music in the Time of Vanvitelli" project, selected by the Scientific Committee as part of the plan to enhance the Royal Palace of Caserta, benefits from the support of the MIC and the Campania Region and draws inspiration from the observations made by the Supreme Architect during the performance of Johann Christian Bach's opera Alexander in the Indies at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. "...It must be confessed that Music is no longer exclusive to Italy. The harmony, sweetness, grace, regulated variety, and everything else that constitutes Music and Melody practiced by this most worthy man (J.C. Bach) surprised me as much as any other Neapolitan." (Letter of January 16, 1762).
Vanvitelli, therefore, grasps with surprising acumen and anticipates the new course of music and the elements that will characterize what is commonly defined as the “Classical Style”. The Project began with great success last Spring and will continue throughout the period of the Celebrations.
The Caserta Chamber Orchestra's program for the European Heritage Days concludes with a recital by Mario Bruno, on Sunday, September 24, at 11 a.m.
