Julian Nagelsmann will lead the German men's senior national team as coach European Championships in Germany next year. The 36-year-old German coach signed a contract until July 31, 2024 today at the DFB campus in Frankfurt am Main.
The DFB Supervisory Board and Shareholders' Meeting had previously accepted the unanimous proposal from DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Sporting Director Rudi Völler to appoint Nagelsmann as the twelfth national team coach in the history of the German Football Association.
Nagelsmann takes over the national team as successor to Hansi flick, who was relieved of his duties on 10 September. Two days later, Rudi Völler and the two DFB coaches Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner led the national team to a 2-1 home victory against France in Dortmund.
Wagner will continue to support Nagelsmann as an assistant in the future, and Benjamin Glück will be the other assistant coach of the national team.

"We have a European Championship in our country. It's something special, something that happens every few decades. I put everything on having a great tournament in a great country. I have a great desire to win this challenge. Being in Dortmund was the beginning. We will be a close-knit group.", said Nagelsmann.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf explained: "Next year's European Championship is of enormous importance for German football as a whole. We are convinced that Julian Nagelsmann, as national coach, will ensure that the national team inspires its fans and that the European Championship is also a sporting success. Julian Nagelsmann is an exceptional coach who approaches his new role with maximum motivation. We will now all focus on next summer's tournament and will support Julian Nagelsmann to the fullest extent possible."
DFB Sporting Director Rudi Völler added: "Julian Nagelsmann was our favorite candidate for national team coach when the search began. Not only is he an absolute football expert, but he has already demonstrated in all his positions—at a very young age for a coach—that he can motivate and inspire a team and the entire environment. His passion for football is evident and contagious, just like with his two assistant coaches, Benjamin Glück and Sandro Wagner, whose great energy I recently experienced. Julian Nagelsmann, with his qualities and personality, will play a crucial role in ensuring that we all experience a great season. European Championship in our country in the summer."
In October, Nagelsmann and the national team will tour the United States and play against the hosts of the next World Cup. After their opening match against the United States on October 14 in Hartford, Connecticut, Germany will face Gold Cup winners Mexico on October 17 in Philadelphia. On November 21, the German national team will face Austria in Vienna in their final international match before the start of the European Championship.
