The Municipal Observatory dedicated to the phenomenon of violence against women was established in Palazzo San Giacomo. This body was created as part of the initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Naples in compliance with the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, commonly known as the "Istanbul Convention."

This initiative also includes the activation of a system of services and interventions aimed at the protection and safeguarding of women, especially those alone or with minors, who are victims of gender-based violence.

The issue of gender violence has assumed such serious proportions that it constitutes a true “social emergency”. It is precisely in light of this growing urgency that the first meeting of the Observatory was held at the Department of Sport and Equal Opportunities.

This municipal body is permanent and has the task of monitoring and analyzing the situation, relying on the skills and experience of professionals who operate in different sectors. The working table, chaired by Councilor Emanuela Ferrante, saw the participation of representatives of institutions, bodies and associations active in the field of equal opportunities.

In light of the worrying data that emerged during the meeting, it was agreed on the need to hold regular meetings, at least monthly. Starting from the following month, in order to make the meetings more effective and oriented towards achieving specific objectives, specific topics will be proposed to be discussed by those attending.

The main objective is to constantly improve the intervention strategies of the Municipality and to decisively address the issue of gender violence.
