The mayor of Napoli, Gaetano Manfredi, said that it is necessary to address this urgent situation. However, at the same time, it is essential to focus on creating jobs, growth and addressing social problems.
Manfredi expressed these concerns after a city council meeting, as well as after the funeral of Giovanbattista Cutolo, a young man killed by a minor with three gunshots in futile circumstances.
The mayor stressed that the Municipality of Naples has taken measures to strengthen social services, hiring social workers, teachers and educators. The goal is to strengthen social support actions that are essential to address this critical situation.
Those involved are working hard and have taken responsibility to assist so many minors. The platform on school dropout is working at full capacity. Despite everything, the mayor acknowledged that there is always more to do, but stressed that all necessary efforts are being made to address the situation.
The problem of unemployment is a long-standing problem for the city of Naples. The mayor said that it is necessary to respond to this problem by increasing controls, but also by creating opportunities for development, which means more jobs and more employment opportunities for those who need them and for young people who want to stay in the city. “We need to provide concrete answers,” he added.
The mayor also reported that he had a long discussion with Minister Piantedosi. Today he will meet the minister in Rome to discuss issues related to immigration. He asked for greater control of the territory and more interventions, especially in the most problematic areas, to guarantee a stronger state presence and to make citizens feel safer.
Manfredi made these statements in reference to the ongoing inter-force operation in the Spanish Quarters, which was launched this morning. This operation follows the murder of Giovanbattista Cutolo by a minor with three gunshots last August 31.
Manfredi said that there is already a great daily commitment, but more needs to be done. The Municipality of Naples will do its part and expects an increase in staff and a greater presence, especially during the night hours, to ensure greater safety for citizens and make them feel the presence of the State.
