A crowded square remembers Giovanbattista Cutolo, the 24-year-old musician shot dead last night near a bar in Piazza Municipio in Naples.
“Justice, justice,” “Giògiò forever,” and “Certezza della pena” are the chants of friends and family of Giovanbattista Cutolo, the young musician killed yesterday in Naples, who are marching through the streets of the city. At the head of the procession is a banner with the words “Giustizia per Giovanni.”
Many citizens, politicians and cultural figures are gathered in grief in Piazza Bellini, in the historic center of Naples, a few steps from the conservatory where Giogiò had studied. Among those present was Giovabattista's mother, Daniela Di Maggio, wearing a black shirt with an image of her son printed on it.
Next to her is her husband, Franco, who tells the press agencies: "I am moved by the innumerable number of people present. The square is almost full: it means that the city is starting to understand how to react to certain things. It is a sign to demonstrate that good and clean Naples exists. This is the most important thing".
The world of music and culture, and beyond, pays uninterrupted homage to the talented horn player: today his friends paraded through the streets of Naples and on Sunday the cellists of the Conservatory will be in concert in the Spanish Quarters.
The Teatro San Carlo has established a scholarship in his name and the writer Maurizio De Giovanni asks Minister Sangiuliano to avoid the closure of the Scarlatti Orchestra in which the young man played.
The answer comes shortly after: the government is ready to support Scarlatti junior. In just a few hours, moreover, cases of violence against minors multiply in Naples. Yesterday a 15-year-old was injured in the Ponticelli neighborhood in a fight during a fantasy football auction. Last night a peer was injured with a sharp object: he will be out for thirty days.
