"Polibus" is back, the free shuttle service operated by the City of Naples that takes spectators to the city's theaters.
This project aims to facilitate travel from the center to the suburbs, encouraging participation in the world of culture and promoting meetings and dialogue between people. Thirty return trips will be made, from September to December, directed to the Teatro Area Nord and the Teatro Napoli Est.
The shuttle to the Teatro Area Nord will depart from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) with an intermediate stop in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro. The departure for the Teatro Napoli Est will be from Piazza Giovanni Bovio (near the Università stop – Metro Line 1).
The first event that will be possible to participate in thanks to “Polibus” will be the dance and video art festival called “Movimentale” at the Teatro Area Nord, which will be held from September 15 to 17. Subsequently, the shuttle service will be available for the show “I giovani infelici” with Francesco di Leva at the Teatro Napoli Est on September 17, as part of the cultural project “Affabulazione”
The aim of this initiative is to promote the connection between the different city centres and support cultural operators through tangible support. “We are very happy that the shuttle service of the Municipality of Naples has been reinstated,” commented Sergio Locoratolo, coordinator of cultural policies of the Municipality of Naples.
Francesco Di Leva, artistic director of Teatro Napoli Est, added: “This is not just a ‘service’ that we offer to citizens, but a concrete step to break down the invisible barrier between the center and the periphery, a challenge that we try to win every day through a real cultural revolution”.
Hilenia De Falco and Lello Serao, artistic directors of the Teatro Area Nord, underlined: “We started this initiative years ago in private form and then asked for the support of the Municipality of Naples when we saw that people responded positively.
It now involves two suburbs of the city of Naples, the north and east areas. We hope that this transport network can expand further, as it is advantageous not only from an economic but also from an ecological point of view. The shuttle has also proved to be an amazing opportunity for socialization, helping to create a sense of community among spectators, which is one of our main goals.”
