Even today San Gennaro repeated the miracle of the liquefaction of the blood.
At 10.01:XNUMX a.m., the ampoule containing the saint's blood was shown to the faithful gathered in the Cathedral, following a procession led by Archbishop Mimmo Battaglia from the chapel containing the ampoule containing the saint's relics to the high altar.
The miracle is repeated three times: the Saturday before the first Sunday in May, in commemoration of the transfer of the remains from Pozzuoli to Naples; September 19, the anniversary of the rite of martyrdom, which occurred under Diocletian; and finally December 16, when, according to tradition, in 1631, the statue of the saint carried in procession stopped the lava of Vesuvius at the gates of the city without destroying it.

"It's an important moment, deeply felt and celebrated throughout the city. San Gennaro is a great symbol of the city that transcends the religious faith we all identify with," said Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, outside Naples Cathedral, where celebrations for the feast of San Gennaro are taking place.
"It's an important moment not only of reflection but of the city's renewed commitment to the future," the mayor continues. When asked what miracle San Gennaro requires, he concludes: "It must give Neapolitans strength to believe in their abilities, their qualities, and to love their city ever more."
