A 40-year-old Sri Lankan national has been arrested by police on charges of kidnapping and attempted extortion.
The foreign man took a person hostage, claiming that the latter owed him 60 euros for occupying a parking space.
The incident occurred last week, but was only made public today by the police authorities. The location of the incident was via Carbonara, located in the historic center of Naples.
The officers of the Vicaria-Mercato police station, during a routine territorial control service, were approached by a tearful woman who reported that her partner had been taken hostage by a foreigner and that she would have to pay 60 euros to free him.
The police officers, using the victim's cell phone location, managed to find her on Via Maria Longo. After implementing an observation strategy, they identified the victim along with another individual. When the latter saw the police officers, he tried to escape but was stopped.
The woman's partner, during the complaint, explained that, after getting into the car with his partner in a parking lot, he was stopped by the individual who threatened to give him 60 euros as payment for the parking space occupied, preventing him from leaving.
Since the victim did not have the requested money, the individual forced her to get out of the car and follow him to Via Maria Longo, preventing her from moving away until the police car arrived.
