Antonio and Arturo Sergio, owners of the historic Caffè Gambrinus in Naples, fondly remembered Giorgio Napolitano, who was a regular customer of theirs.
Napolitano, born in Naples in 1925, was a man deeply attached to his city. Before moving to Rome for political commitments, he had lived a short distance from Gambrinus.
During every visit to Naples, the President of the Republic never failed to stop at Gambrinus for a coffee and a sfogliatella.
"He was a friendly and affable man," the Sergios said. "He greeted everyone, the staff, and other patrons, with great enthusiasm."
Napolitano was also a man of great culture and passion for the city.

Napolitano always demonstrated his love for Naples, even when he was President of the Republic. "He was a true Neapolitan who never backed down when called upon," said Antonio Sergio.
Napolitano greatly appreciated the idea of the Gambrinus owners to strengthen the solidarity practice of suspended coffee.
"He was a man of great social sensitivity," concluded Arturo Sergio. "He appreciated the idea of helping people in need."
