Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano has ordered that the President Emeritus of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano a state funeral will be held. National mourning will also be declared.
"Following the death of the President Emeritus of the Republic, Senator for Life and Exemplary Giorgio Napolitano," the statement reads, "it is ordered that, from September 22, 2023 until the day of the state funeral, the national and European flags be flown at half-mast on public buildings throughout the country and on the premises of Italian diplomatic and consular representations abroad.
