"Mom, wake up from your sleep, they know it's me, they know...": they intercept a real confession.

After gathering important evidence about his responsibilities, the Carabinieri of the Poggioreale Operations Unit and officers from the Naples Flying Squad today—at the conclusion of investigations coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Claudia De Luca—delivered a 17-year-old from the Ponticelli neighborhood to the Colli Aminei reception center to await a hearing before investigating judge Paola Brunese.

Investigators are charging him with a series of crimes (attempted aggravated murder, attempted aggravated robbery, illegal possession of a firearm in a public place, and receiving stolen goods) in connection with a bloody attempted scooter robbery on March 29th, during which the bandits shot twice at a 32-year-old engineer who refused to hand over the vehicle. The video of the incident immediately went viral, and the victim nearly lost his life and subsequently had his leg amputated.

On May 31, law enforcement set a trap for the 17-year-old: they made him understand that he was the boy dressed in black who, with an accomplice who is still being identified, shot the engineer.

They make a clear reference to his height ("but how tall you are, five feet tall") and to the fact that the images from the video surveillance system of the petrol station where the incident occurred (in the presence of a witness, a foreigner who works there) are so clear as to allow for the reliable identification of the people involved.

After handing out a summons to appear at the police station, the officers leave and record the following conversation through the wiretaps: the boy admits to being part of a gang that presumably demands a ransom for the return of the loot after the robberies (the so-called 'return horse' technique), and also to having committed other robberies.

Fearing exposure, however, he says he stopped: "We'd already be in prison if we were still committing robberies; we'd already have shot seven of them (seven victims)." "I don't commit robberies anymore, but I've committed them," he says, adding, "They know the truth" (about the identity of the person who wounded the 32-year-old). "He said: 'You shoot someone for a scooter,'" replies a person who was at the 17-year-old's house, to which the minor replies, "Well, people are stupid."

At this point, he clearly understands his fate and begins to express his first fears: "They're going to arrest me." During a phone call with his mother, confirmation of his involvement arrives: "Mom, wake up from your sleep, they know it's me, they know it's me, wake up from your sleep, they know it's me."
