Carmine De Rosa, the police officer originally from Naples who was seriously injured while attempting to prevent a prisoner's escape, is hospitalized in intensive care following surgery.
The officer underwent neurosurgery to remove a cerebral hematoma and "cranial decompression and insertion of an intracranial pressure monitoring system," according to a bulletin from Milan's San Carlo Hospital, where he is being treated.
First aid was provided to the officer, who serves at the San Vittore prison, at the San Paolo hospital where he fell from a window.
