BITUS, the International Exchange for School Tourism and Out-of-Class Teaching, promoted and supported by the General Directorate for Cultural Policies and Tourism together with the Department for Tourism Development and Promotion of the Campania Region, the Campania Regional Tourism Agency, and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, closed with 15 attendees, mainly from 120 middle and high schools in the Campania, Lazio, Puglia, Basilicata, and Abruzzo regions.

This is the number of people who participated in educational workshops and activities for children and young people with CoopCulture, the Scuola Italiana Comix of Naples, La Cartiera, and, outdoors, at the GIVOVA Sport Village. They met with spokesperson Massimiliano Gallo, and also took part in numerous meetings and events, including shows, book presentations, previews, and performances by school youth orchestras for the second edition of the Student Music Festival, during the four-day BITUS event at the Ex Real Polverificio Borbonico. "BITUS concludes today, four days of great participation by students, teachers, and professionals," explains Letizia Casuccio, General Manager of CoopCulture.

And after this edition, we are even more convinced that school tourism, for which CoopCulture is committed every day with educational activities and experiences in over 200 cultural venues, is a product of the collaboration of the entire educational community: families, schools, sector operators, and institutions. Together, they can design an offering that also embodies the values of respect, kindness, civic duty, and caring for others.

We were infected by the students' enthusiasm, and with this positive energy, we're getting to work on the next edition." "After the initial edition, this first true BITUS was a further realization that the dream, which began years ago, has become a necessary reality, exceeding the rosiest expectations, making it a moral obligation to continue on this path," explains the creator and organizer Domenico Maria Corrado.

The workshop, bringing together national and international demand and supply of proposals for school tourism, study trips, and out-of-class learning, in collaboration with ENIT (Italian National Tourist Board), was a resounding success. It involved 90 industry players, including tour operators, travel agencies, mobility providers, and schools of all levels. The meetings included the presentation of ENIT's WeMED_NaTOUR project, focusing on maritime and coastal tourism for younger generations; a discussion on the importance of good nutrition and sports in schools for obesity prevention and healthy lifestyle education, with journalist Peppe Iannicelli and Gennaro Velardo, President of the Italia Ortofrutta Unione Nazionale; and a preview of the Tuscany Region's manifesto of educational tourism values.

Also starting at BITUS is "33 Years Later, I Hope I Can Still Do It…": students from selected schools will write essays based on the timeless book by Marcello D'Orta. The project aims to become a theatrical performance with Paolo Caiazzo, who will be present at the School Tourism Exchange. BITUS 2023 was conceived and organized by Domenico Maria Corrado of I Mercanti d'Arte, together with CoopCulture, with the involvement and scientific contribution of BTO Educational, and under the patronage of the Municipality of Scafati, the Ministry of Tourism, ENIT National Tourism Agency, and the Banco di Napoli Foundation.
