The winners on December 19th.
The Premio Napoli has chosen the trios of authors and books finalists for the 2023 edition, the winners will be announced on December 19 at the Mercadante theater. They are for fiction: Silvia Ballestra, 'La Sibilla. Vita di Joyce Lussu' (Laterza), Maria Teresa Giaveri, 'Nei mari di Ulisse' (Neri Pozza), Patrizio Esposito, 'Cospira' (Cronopio), special mention to Sabrina Efionayi, 'Addio, a domani' (Einaudi).
For non-fiction: Egidio Ivetic, 'The great story of the Mediterranean' (Il Mulino), Alessandra Caputi and Anna Fava, 'Private citizens of Naples. The city contested between common goods and privatizations' (Castelvecchi), Maurizio Pagliassotti, 'The invisible war. A journey on the front of hatred against migrants' (Einaudi), special mention to Simona Frasca, Mixed by Erry. The story of the Frattasio brothers (East of the Equator).
For poetry, the contenders are: Marilena Renda, 'Fuoco degli occhi' (Aragno), Bruno Galluccio, 'Camera sul vuoto' (Einaudi), Domenico Brancale, 'Dovunque acqua sia voce' (Edizioni degli animali), special mention to Nuri Al-Jarrah, 'Esodo dall'abisso del Mediterraneo. Poesie scelte' (Le Monnier Università). The technical jury is chaired by Alfredo Guardiano, the finalists will be presented on October 7, during the Campania Libri Festival. Four hundred extracts among those registered on the platform (250 for fiction, 100 for non-fiction and 50 for poetry) will receive the volumes for free.
Non-selected jurors will be able to purchase discounted copies at participating bookstores. Maurizio de Giovanni, president of Campania legge – Fondazione Premio Napoli, explains: “The change in rules for reader jurors is aimed at encouraging reading and supporting bookstores. By purchasing free copies, the foundation is making a significant contribution to the sector. The finalists are high-profile and respect the theme chosen this year, the Mediterranean. A place of space and spirit, the setting for the great challenges of the present, from the environment to migration”.
