Exactly one month ago, just before Ferragosto, in the waters of the Amalfi Coast (between cetara and Erchie) a tragic event occurred.
Manuel Cientanni, a thirty-year-old from Salerno, was on a boat with two friends for a trip. Since that terrible afternoon, he has been missing at sea. The searches coordinated by various law enforcement agencies under the supervision of the Port Authority of Salerno have been conducted for days without any results.
“We always hope to find Manuel,” says Walter Cientanni, the father of the thirty-year-old, who wanted to send a message through news agencies to keep the feeling of hope alive. “We appeal to the people who live the sea every day. I am thinking, for example, of the fishermen of Campania, Calabria, Sicily or lower Lazio. But also to those who work at sea.
We ask them to be very careful and not to overlook anything. Manuel could be anywhere, we need everyone to check the entire coast”. In fact, the sea currents could have also pushed the body of the thirty-year-old very far away.
“We sincerely thank the police, the Port Authority, the Fire Department and all those who participated in the search for Manuel for days. We know that they made every effort to find him. They also distributed an information bulletin for the boats and were always close to us.
However, we do not want to lose hope and we want to invite more people to monitor the sea to keep attention high”. Meanwhile, this evening, the friends of the Italian Naval League of Salerno will hold a torchlight procession in memory of the thirty-year-old. The young man worked as a chef in the marine structure located under the Piazza della Concordia.
“Manuel was tragically taken away from us too soon and his passing has left a great void”, can be read on the Facebook page of the Lega Navale Italiana of Salerno. The appointment is set for this evening at 20 pm at the headquarters of the Lega Navale of Salerno. From there the torchlight procession will start and reach the green lighthouse of the Masuccio Salernitano pier. “We remember Manuel with affection and gratitude, sailing together in his memories”.
