“Today is a day of deep bitterness for our city. Yesterday the Prefecture of Salerno definitively declared the dismissal of the Mayor, Giuseppe Canfora, following the final conviction of the latter, in Cassation, for the case of the appointments to the Asi Consortium.
An epilogue, certainly announced and expected, but no less sad and a source of dismay for all those who fight and work every day to try to bring citizens closer to the political life of their country and ensure them a transparent, honest local administrative management based on the highest criteria of legality and moral integrity.
From the very beginning, when the Supreme Court issued its ruling, we underlined that, in this case, the political aspect is as important as the judicial one: the judges clearly spoke of favoritism and pressure in the management of the Asi nominations during Canfora's term as president of the Province of Salerno. This fact casts a dark light on the public management and integrity of our local institutions".
The one who denounced it was Virginia Villani, provincial coordinator of the 5 Star Movement in Salerno. “As the 5 Star Movement - keep it going - We reiterate our commitment to denounce and condemn any form of suspicious political interference in administrations.
Our mission is to defend transparency, honesty and justice, and we will not stop until we have rid our country of these indelible stains. Today is a sad day, but it is also the day in which we renew our commitment to serve citizens with dedication and honesty.
We will continue to work hard to rebuild – concludes Villani – citizens' trust in local institutions which, more than ever in this period, is being put to the test, also following the latest events that occurred in the Nocerino countryside".
