A German pilot lost his life late this afternoon following a clash in flight between his hang glider and paragliding of an Italian pilot. The collision occurred near Vitriol (Levico Terme), where the two, after taking off, were flying at an altitude of about 1600 meters. The alarm to the single emergency number 112 arrived around 16:45, from several people who, witnessing the scene, promptly alerted the rescue services.

The single power station of Trentino emergency therefore requested the immediate intervention of the helicopter, while the staff of the Levico Terme station made themselves available on the lay-by, to then be sent by land to the site of the accident. The numerous calls received from several people reporting different coordinates initially made it difficult to locate, but in a short time the helicopter was able to direct itself to the paraglider pilot, who after the impact had managed to partially arrest his fall by opening the emergency canopy.

The helicopter rescue technician and the medical team were then landed in hover over the patient, who was recovered and airlifted to the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento, not in danger of life. The helicopter, while descending to rescue the paraglider, also managed to locate the hang glider pilot, for whom nothing could be done but to confirm the death. Reached by land by the Alpine Rescue personnel and the Levico Terme Volunteer Fire Brigade, the body was then recovered and taken to the valley after the authorities gave the go-ahead.
