Two days of meetings and training on digital security.
The Youth Panel journey continues. The appointment is from 19 to 21 September in Rome at the MIM. Space for discussion with the main Big Tech Google, Meta and TikTok. The project is coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Merit
Starting today, Giffoni will be the protagonist of Back to School, an event promoted as part of the activities of the Safer Internet Centre – Connected Generations, a project co-funded by the European Commission as part of the Digital Europe program dedicated to online risks and coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Merit with the partnership of the main Italian organizations involved in online safety: the Italian Authority for Children and Adolescents, the State Police, the Ministry of Culture, the Universities of Florence and Rome "La Sapienza", Giffoni Experience, Save the Children Italia, Telefono Azzurro, the EDI Onlus cooperative, and Skuola.net.
Intense three days of activity, starting today, which will involve the kids of the Youth Panel, aged between 14 and 18, coordinated by Giffoni. Tomorrow, September 20, in Rome at the Ministry of Education and Merit, with an interesting training session that will be animated by the members of the Teachers Panel and the experts of the Sic. The themes at the center of the meetings are related to digital security, issues that impact the lives of kids and that have been explored and discussed during the previous activities that took place during the year, from Safer Internet Day in February to the meeting in Procida last May. Among the points most discussed is the need to equip schools with ePolicy, a programming document self-produced by individual schools to determine the approach of the school with respect to digital skills and use of the network. The Sic has promoted an important e-learning path aimed at teachers to guide them in the creation of an institute ePolicy to give all school entities the opportunity to plan and update digital citizenship activities
The program for Thursday, September 21, when the “Back to School” event will be held at the Ministry of Education and Merit, is very detailed.

The award ceremony will follow for the winning schools of the “The Kids are All Right” competition, an educational competition open to all primary and secondary schools that aimed to enhance knowledge to develop digital skills in the aspects of “digital content creation” and “security”.
At 11.00:XNUMX there will be the presentation of the spot created by the Youth Panel during the Short Movie Lab that was held in Procida last May in the suggestive setting of the historic Palazzo d'Avalos. Marco Cesaro, head of the Special Projects department of Giffoni, will be present. The spot was directed by Giuseppe Novellino, assistant director and actor coach Andrea Contaldo, video operator Francesco Mauro, all of the Giffoni production team. The short movie used as narrative tools some symbolisms and metaphorical elements that were naturally present at the Palazzo D'Avalos in Procida. On stage some ghosts that tell of the online danger they have run and that makes them prisoners. A surprise ending shows how there is a way to free yourself from the trap of cyberbullying. The aim is to demonstrate the usefulness of ePolicy as a tool that protects kids and also supports them in the process of expressing discomfort related to dangers online.
The day will conclude with an engaging roundtable discussion featuring representatives from major digital platforms. Experts from Big Tech companies Google, Meta, and TikTok will be present. "New Generations, New Technologies" is the title of the roundtable discussion, which aims to connect those who produce digital content and those who consume it to define policies and approaches that are as widely shared as possible, ensuring that the internet increasingly represents an opportunity, not a threat.
It will be possible to follow the event, via live streaming, on the website www.generazioniconnesse.it, from 10:00 to 13:00 on September 21st.
SIC's activities don't stop there. Two members of the Youth Panel will represent Italy at the Safer Internet Forum, which will be held in Brussels as part of the EC's Better Internet for Kids (BIK) initiative.
