On September 16, starting at 14:00 pm, the “Baptism of the Sea” event will be held at San Francesco beach in Marina Piccola in Sorrento, offering free diving and freediving trials with the guidance of expert divers and instructors.
This initiative is part of the European project Lifeseanet, coordinated by Legambiente, in collaboration with the Punta Campanella MPA, with the aim of expanding knowledge and protection of the marine sites of Natura 2000, the largest network of protected areas in the world, which also includes the seabed of the Sorrento Peninsula and Capri.
Participants, considering that places are limited, can book their participation at the link https://www.puntacampanella.org/battesimo-del-mare/il-battesimo-del-mare-2023. They will be accompanied at sea by expert guides from the diving centers Punta Campanella, Barracuda, Bikini, Capri Feeediving, Sirene Boatdiving, Hotel Mary diving and the associations Jacques Costeau and Centro sub Torre del Greco.
The “Baptism of the Sea” offers the opportunity to learn the basics to begin diving in complete safety. This is done through some simple theoretical indications, followed by a test in the water of about 15 minutes.
Lucio Cacace, President of the Punta Campanella MPA, underlines the importance of making known and appreciated the beauty of the underwater world, which is a fundamental step for its protection. This initiative takes place in Marina Piccola in Sorrento, an enchanting place where for years we have been working to enhance the site in collaboration with the Municipality of Sorrento.
Luigi Di Prisco, President of the Sorrento City Council, adds that this initiative is part of the activities promoted by the Municipality to raise public awareness of the value of the sea as a resource.
Living this experience to the fullest means extending one's gaze towards the horizon, discovering the hidden beauties beneath the surface and promoting first-hand experiences that allow citizens to explore the underwater world and its fascinating wonders.
