The three workers killed late this morning in an explosion at the 'Sabino Esplodenti' plant in Casalbordino were recovering gunpowder from an explosive device.
One of them, Giulio Romano, 56, from Casalbordino, had miraculously escaped the tragedy that occurred in the same plant in 2020, which also cost the lives of three colleagues. A sudden shift change had saved him. Gianluca De Santis, from Palata in Molise, and 56-year-old Fernando Di Nella, 62, originally from Paglieta (Chieti) and resident in Lanciano (Chieti), lost their lives together with him.
Di Nella, a foreman, lived in the populous neighborhood of Santa Rita. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters. His brother-in-law also worked at Sabino and has already retired.
In the meantime, for safety reasons, two homes near the area have been evacuated, which still needs to be cleared by the Army bomb disposal team, who will arrive tomorrow. The on-duty prosecutor is currently inspecting the area.
