The modernization activities of the electrical network of the metropolitan area of Naples continue with the opening of the construction sites for the replacement of the underground cable of approximately 5 km between the Primary Cabin "Napoli Centro" and the Primary Cabin "Doganella".
The works by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, will begin on September 20 and will last approximately 70 days, involving municipalities I, II and IV of the Municipality of Naples, in particular via Acton, via Cristoforo Colombo with the area around Piazza Municipio, and Via Ponte dei Granili.
The overall intervention, which began last March 2022, consists of replacing the existing fluid oil cable with a cable covered in XLPE (extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation), a particularly reliable and sustainable technology.

Terna has shared with the Municipality a work plan aimed at ensuring minimal impacts on existing roads and reducing traffic restrictions on the road sections involved.
The intervention, envisaged by the Collaboration Agreement signed in 2020 by Terna and the Municipality of Naples, is part of the work plan coordinated by the Permanent Technical Table chaired by the Municipality itself, to make the energy transmission service more efficient and sustainable through the modernization of existing cable connections. The rationalization also includes the demolition of 10 km of 220 kV overhead power lines in the city of Naples and will free approximately 25 hectares of land from the impact of existing electrical infrastructure.
