The earthquake was also felt in Marrakesh, Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir and Essaouira, causing panic among the population. Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit said many of the victims were in remote areas of the country.
There were reports of families trapped under the rubble of their homes. Hospitals in Marrakesh received a large influx of injured people and authorities urged residents to donate blood. The Moroccan military, emergency services and authorities are working together to help those affected by the earthquake and assess the damage, which includes the collapse of several homes and other buildings.
