The press conference to present Scafati Pride 2023, which will be held on Saturday 16 September, was held yesterday morning at Mondadori in Scafati.
Present were the organizers, the LGBTQI+ and local associations, the mayor Pasquale Aliberti and Giulia Molino who, together with Monica Cirinnà, first signatory of the law on Civil Unions approved in 2016, will be the godmothers of Scafati Pride 2023.
Danilo Benjamin Of Leo, president of Pride Vesuvio Rainbow, the association that promotes Scafati Pride, recalled the importance of pride events, especially in small or medium-sized towns in the Italian provinces. After recalling the pride events held in Pompeii, Sorrento and Torre Annunziata, Di Leo highlighted the difficulties that are still encountered today, especially in the provinces, in living one's sexual orientation or gender identity serenely.
Manuel Masucci of Short Circuit and Pier Paolo Patti of the Casa del Popolo of Scafati illustrated the political platform of the Scafati Pride and underlined the intersectionality of some battles: from public health to school, from the environment to legality to the fight against all forms of discrimination and violence. In particular, Pier Paolo Patti described all the organizational aspects of the demonstration, which also brings to Scafati the demands of LGBTQI+ people who unfortunately in Italy still do not have full recognition of many civil rights protected in all the great Western democracies, except in our country, and are on the contrary increasingly victims of discrimination and violence.

In a long speech the Mayor Aliberti reiterated, after some vicissitudes and many doubts, the support of the Municipality of Scafati to the Pride and its presence both at the pilgrimage for the family promoted by Rinnovamento nello Spirito Santo and at the Scafati Pride, both scheduled in the city next Saturday. Aliberti, while arguing about the arrival of the procession in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, while insisting on proposing its arrival in Piazzale Aldo Moro, hopes that from Scafati, right next Saturday, a message of freedom and civil coexistence will come.
Also present was one of the two godmothers of the Scafati Pride, a singer and artist and above all the pride of Scafati, Julia Molino he underlined the constant violation of civil rights in our country: “Today I would be afraid to have a son or daughter in a country that discriminates against families based on the sexual orientation of the parents.”

Also impactful and important is the message from Monica Cirinnà, also godmother of the Scafati Pride and present at the event next Saturday.
“I am proud to have been chosen as the godmother of the Scafati Pride. We are living in a difficult historical moment for the LGBTQIA+ community that is seeing serious setbacks on the conquests made in recent years – writes Cirinnà on her social pages – Since the law on civil unions, no progress has been made. Indeed, we are witnessing serious steps backwards. As an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, I will be in Scafati to support its legitimate demands. We will remain in the squares: women, LGBTQIA+ people, migrants, disabled people, precarious workers, unemployed people, families because only by remaining united can we think of defending rights and freedom”.
LGBTQI+ associations and the organizing associations of Scafati Pride were present: Pride Vesuvio Rainbow, Coordinamento Campania Rainbow, ALFI le Maree, AGEDO, Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, Corto Circuito, Casa del Popolo Scafati, Libera, ARCI and ANPI. Alfonso Romano moderated.
So, let's meet up for Saturday 16th September at 16.30pm at the Plaza shopping mall where the long, rainbow procession will start.
