It was just after 11.00 this morning when the Carabinieri of the station Valle di Maddaloni, in the province of Caserta, intervened at the Carolino aqueduct where the presence of a woman had been reported who, with suicidal intent, had sat on the retaining wall of the bridge's transit path, with her feet dangling towards the outside.
Before the military arrived on site, the carabiniere on duty at the barracks managed to keep her on her cell phone, using the woman's phone number, retrieved from an acquaintance, and tried to dissuade her from committing the insane act.
Once on site, the Carabinieri, taking all the necessary precautions, tried to approach the same person who repeatedly threatened to fall into the void if they tried to grab her. A long mediation dialogue ensued, during which the Marshal and the Carabiniere who intervened tried to make her desist from her intentions.
After a grueling negotiation, taking advantage of a moment of distraction, they managed to grab her at the exact moment she lost consciousness. The forty-eight-year-old from Dugenta, supported by the Carabinieri, was safely placed behind the parapet of the wall. She was subsequently entrusted to the care of the 118 paramedics who intervened on the spot
