Yet another victim of the road Napoli, yet another victim of distracted driving. It happened the other evening in Vomero.

Vincenza Fiorentino, 81, a Neapolitan from the Vomero neighborhood, was hit while crossing the pedestrian crossing on Via Caldieri near Via Guido Cortese. She was hit by a 64-year-old man driving a Fiat Panda who was returning from work.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The driver of the car was tested for drugs and alcohol to determine whether he was fit to drive at the time of the impact.

The investigation is being conducted by the accident prevention section of the municipal police. At the moment it seems that the driver of the car did not see the elderly woman crossing, even though she was in the middle of the pedestrian crossing. A moment of distraction could have been fatal. It cannot be ruled out that she could have been on her cell phone.

The images from public and private video surveillance in the area may be crucial to ascertaining the truth. The man has been charged with road homicide.
