Events included in the project “Autumn Equinox meets the Fera della Croce di Stio” co-financed by the Complementary Operational Program POC of the Campania Region 2014-2020 - strategic line “Urban Regeneration, Tourism and Culture Policies”, which involves six municipalities of Cilento, home of the Mediterranean Diet, history, well-being, art and culture of the South, falling within the Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, with the municipalities of San Giovanni a Piro (Leading body), Ascea, Campora, Gioi, Orria and Stio.
And in the leading municipality, full immersion in music is accompanied by a real journey into art with the itinerary "The ways of the sacred and profane Passion" among the works of the Spanish painter José Garcia Ortega who, right in the hamlet of Bosco, in the municipality of San Giovanni a Piro, he found refuge in a house which has now become a museum which was also the source of inspiration for the most important works during his exile during the Franco dictatorship, due to the continuous demand for the freedom of his people and closeness to his fellow citizens. Precisely in the Cilento village of Bosco, a hamlet of San Giovanni a Piro and the protagonist territory of the revolutionary uprisings of Cilento dated 1828, the painter rediscovered the similarities with his beloved Spain, so much so that it became a source of inspiration for the most beautiful of his pictorial works and a mural in majolica de la Mancha that he donated to the Cilento town in memory of the revolutionary events.
Artistic but also historical itinerary, visiting the monuments, places of worship and faith where it is possible to retrace the footsteps of the monks with a visit to the Sanctuary of Madonna di Pietrasanta and the Basilian Cenobio of San Giovanni Battista.
Art, faith and history, but also food and wine, to which it is possible to combine the beauty of nature with boat trips along the "coast of wonders" of the protected marine area Costa della Masseta and degli Infreschi. Sea and mountains, with trekking or mountain bike routes where it is possible to reach the summit of Mount Bulgheria, the Pianoro di Ciolandrea and from where it is possible to admire the Cilento in all its beauty, with its biodiversity that characterizes a symbolic place of the Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
And right from the Ciolandrea plateau, located 600 meters above sea level, a place of breathtaking beauty transformed into a viewpoint for naturalistic observation and musical and cultural events, which overlooks the sheer sea, it is possible to admire the coasts of the four regions, Basilicata with the Christ of Maratea, the Aeolian Islands and Stromboli in Sicily, the coast of Calabria and the coast of Campania. Furthermore, a few steps from the viewpoint, thanks to a nature trail that reaches another breathtaking observation point, it is possible to admire the four regions and all the beauty of the sea and the mountains, while sitting comfortably on a giant bench.
Nature trails that from the top of the mountains falling within the municipality of San Giovanni a Piro, connect the various Cilento municipalities to the sea, through a dialogue between the coast and the inland areas united with the thousand-year-old Fera della Croce di Stio, for the valorization of a heritage of food and wine and historical-environmental traditions through 12 thematic "trips" that make the protagonists, for a 365-day-a-year tourism, also the areas of historical interest such as the archaeological area of Elea-Velia, the Ricci palace of Ascea, the cliff of Ascea Marina, the mural of Piano Vetrale in the hamlet of Orria, the Campora forest, the historic center of Stio, the castle and the convent of San Francesco di Gioi Cilento, the Basilian monastery of San Giovanni a Piro and the villages of Bosco and Scario in San Giovanni a Piro.
