Acer, the Campania Agency for residential construction, has started a program of anti-seismic checks in public housing in Pozzuoli, crossroads of bradyseism. The checks, which are taking place these days, concern the buildings constructed in 1958.

"We have developed a prevention model for all buildings, building a system with our technicians and in collaboration with the Order of Engineers," explained Acer President David Lebro. "We will go house by house, property by property, to assess the state of the art. We clearly started with Pozzuoli, which was affected by bradyseism. Here, we realized that we need to provide sensitive assistance to residents, who are legitimately afraid of seeing cracks, even small ones: situations that, according to what we've seen so far, don't affect the stability of the buildings. Our monitoring therefore also serves to instill confidence in residents."

The residents of the public housing in Pozzuoli have opened their doors to the workers and today in the 4-5 story buildings the technicians have studied the situation of pillars, balconies, cellars and terraces. The protocol was created before the Government decree and the sheet meets international anti-seismic standards. So far no critical issues have been identified.

The program aims to identify the potential seismic vulnerabilities of the 430 Acer-owned buildings located in the red zone, which includes the municipalities of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Monte di Procida, and the Neapolitan neighborhoods of Bagnoli, Fuorigrotta, Agnano, Soccavo, and Pianura.

After the red zone of Campi Flegrei, control will also pass to seven municipalities in the Municipality of Naples, in the red zone.

The words of the president of Acer

"We're working on the safety of public housing, starting in Pozzuoli, a hub of bradyseism, where we're verifying stability apartment by apartment after the latest tremors," said David Lebro, president of Acer. "In recent weeks, we've developed a prevention model for all buildings, building a system with our technicians and in collaboration with the Order of Engineers. They will visit each building, house by house, to verify the state of the art. We clearly started in Pozzuoli, which was affected by bradyseism. Here, we realized the need to provide sensitive assistance to tenants, who are legitimately afraid of seeing cracks, even small ones: situations that, according to what we've seen so far, don't affect the stability of the buildings. Our monitoring therefore also serves to instill confidence in residents."

The conclusions

The seismic testing program for public housing in Pozzuoli is an important initiative to ensure the safety of residents. Initial inspections, conducted recently, have not revealed any critical issues, but it is important that the checks continue to identify any vulnerabilities and intervene promptly.
