The municipal administration of atrani, on the Amalfi Coast, has approved, "with the aim of alleviating the serious problems linked to the lack of burial niches at the municipal cemetery," the provision of financial contributions for the cremation of the deceased totaling 21.000 euros.
"The initiative," explains Mayor Luciano de Rosa Laderchi, "is part of the institutional policies implemented by the Authority to rationalize the limited cemetery space available to the Municipality of Atrani and aims to prevent the impossibility of carrying out ordinary burials and to prevent health and hygiene emergencies.

By granting a €300 contribution, we also want to concretely support the practice of cremation, a highly personal choice that can respond to ever-present practical, ethical, and environmental needs.
Requests for financial support may be submitted by family members of the deceased who are entitled to burial at the Atrani cemetery. To receive the grant, "which will benefit the person who paid for the expenses," the expenses incurred must be duly documented to the organization using methods that will be published later.
