They had asked for a bribe of 200 thousand euros from an entrepreneur from Melito who was about to build a supermarket and for this reason the new leaders of the gang were arrested.
Thanks to an investigation coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples, the Carabinieri of the Marano di Napoli Company have executed a Prison Detention Order issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Naples, against five leading members of the “Amato-Pagano” Clan.
The individuals, considered to be seriously suspected of extortion aggravated by mafia methods, worked to assert, through intimidating force, control of the territory and of the illicit activities of the Clan “Amato-Pagano” in the territory of Melito and Mugnano di Napoli.
From the investigative findings, it emerged that the five suspects, in May 2019, summoned a local entrepreneur to extort a bribe of 200 thousand euros, for the construction of a supermarket in the municipality of Melito di Napoli.

On that occasion, the entrepreneur, after having started a negotiation, managed to obtain the payment, in several installments, of the smaller sum of 80 thousand Euros.

Marco Liguori, known as “Marchetiello”, pro-tempore clan leader and adopted nephew of the founder Raffaele Amato, currently detained under the 41bis regime in the Sassari prison; Fortunato Murolo called “Nanduccio/sasamen”, brother-in-law of the more famous Elio Amato, detained under the 41bis regime at the Tolmezzo prison.
And then Salvatore Chiarello known as “Totore o' boxer”, a historical member of the clan and contact person in the Melito di Napoli area, currently detained in the Lecce prison; Nicola Schiavone known as “Linuccio the Barber”, historical affiliate and contact person of the clan for extortion in the Mugnano di Napoli area and currently detained in the Cosenza prison; Domenico De Mase known as “Cap and Cow”, a historic affiliate and contact for extortion in the Mugnano di Napoli area, currently under house arrest.
