A young man from Gesualdo, in the province of Avellino, is yet another victim of "phishing," a cyber fraud that drains victims' bank accounts and prepaid cards after gaining access to sensitive data.

The scammer, who managed to duplicate the data of her prepaid card, thus took possession of the 500 euros available. She is a 19-year-old resident in the province of Naples.

After the victim's complaint, the Carabinieri of the Mirabella Eclano Company identified and reported her.

Carabinieri foil five scams targeting seniors in Irpinia.

by Vincenzo Scarpa February 12, 2026 - 13:09 13:09

Five attempted scams targeting elderly people were foiled by Carabinieri officers from the Avellino Provincial Command in various towns in the Calore Valley. Once again, the criminals attempted to use the now-familiar "fake relative in trouble" technique, but the alertness of the potential victims and the swift intervention of law enforcement foiled the scheme.

The calls came to the homes of elderly residents in Venticano, Pietradefusi, and Montefusco. On the other end, a frantic voice described a relative involved in a serious problem, often an accident or an urgent legal matter, and demanded the immediate delivery of cash and valuables to a representative who would shortly arrive at the door.
