Civica stages a conference on the meaning of modesty, which transforms from a lesson to a show, using three significant videos, which show Orson Wells in Shylock's monologue (The Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare), Nina Simone singing Ain't Got No, I Got Life, Ettore Petrolini in Gastone. An invitation to reflect on the type of emotion we receive at the theater.
"What is the quality and nature of the emotion we experience at the theatre? – asks Civica. It is a mild, sweet, poignant emotion, unlike anything we experience in our daily lives. This lecture-performance, through the screening of three videos, attempts to show how great actors move us through the modesty of their feelings, resisting the torrent of emotions that overwhelm them rather than giving them unrestrained vent. A child crying uncontrollably and a child struggling not to cry move us in different ways. One of these two is the emotion of theater.
