The Matteo and Claudina de Stefano Foundation is organizing the IX edition of Torchiara Story Festival, the storytelling salon in the heart of Cilento, thanks to the support of the Campania Region, with the patronage of the Province of Salerno, the Union of Alto Cilento Municipalities and the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
For the first time this year, the foundation has obtained recognition from the Ministry of Culture for the promotional activities that, for over 40 years, it has dedicated to the territory, consolidating a synergy now increasingly focused on the enhancement of cultural heritage.
Appointment next October 6 and 7, at the Palazzo Baronale de Conciliis in Torchiara, where art and literature will meet to give life to an exciting journey through time, between historical memory and current issues, with exceptional guests in comparison. The two-day event will celebrate at the opening, from 18 pm on Friday 6 October, the completion of the Cilento PAC Percorsi d'Arte Contemporanea project, started in 2020, with the involvement of artists of national and international fame who have made it possible to enrich the twelve towns of the Union of Municipalities Paestum Alto Cilento with the installations of sixteen permanent works, donated by the foundation and created by Tesi srl, which can be admired immersed in the characteristic landscape of the Cilento hinterland.
Thus, an extensive route has been created that winds along unspoiled nature trails in the most scenic areas of ancient villages, some of which are within the Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park: Agropoli, Capaccio Paestum, Cicerale, Giungano, Laureana Cilento, Lustra (Rocca Cilento), and Perdifumo, in addition to Albanella, Ogliastro Cilento, Prignano Cilento, Rutino, and Torchiara itself.

Also at 18:7 PM, Saturday, October 1850th, will be entirely dedicated to the debate "In the Wake of the Ships: The Cultural and Economic Aspects of Migration," which will present the first practical experiment in geolocalizing and digitizing migrants' stories. This will be done through the web app E-migranti, funded by the Campania Region, which will allow readers to access previously unpublished documents collected by the State Archives of Naples. This experimental research, promoted by the De Stefano Foundation, in collaboration with the Unione dei Comuni Alto Cilento, is the result of work that has allowed documents from the history of individuals and entire families to emerge from silence, for a project of national and international standing. This has enabled the mapping of the departure points of migrants who moved from Campania—primarily to the Americas—between 1970 and XNUMX, specifically for the towns of the Unione dei Comuni Alto Cilento, for the first time in Italy. The afternoon discussion will focus on the cultural themes and socioeconomic aspects of migration, the phenomenon's deep-rooted, remote and contemporary causes, and the perspectives on memory and identity.
The President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, will introduce the event. Following this, the director of the State Archives of Naples, Candida Carrino, will show the research documents, with insights from Adriano Giannola, president of Svimez Italia, Emma Ferrante Milanese, director of the Study Center for the Lions Club Salerno, Marta Cariello and Diego Lazzarich from the University L'Orientale of Naples, Giuseppe Galzerano, editor of the Cilento publishing house of the same name. With the coordination of the archaeologist Rossana di Poce, the talk will discuss the "trails" of emigration of yesterday and today, focusing on the potential of studies on the subject, in the context of Roots Tourism, of potential planning in the Pnrr and, above all, of the reconnection of local and global memory, which responds to the triple challenge: digital, eco-sustainability and incentive for youth employment. At the same time, it will be possible to visit the photographic exhibition I migranti dell'oggi by Ornella Foglia, set up for the occasion in the Salone degli Specchi of the Palazzo Baronale. Hopes and broken dreams imprinted with the sensitivity that is her own, by the Neapolitan artist who last year had already presented her personal exhibition Donne Combattenti.
The black and white images, intentionally blurred and out of focus, revolve around the work L'Approdo by Leonardo Galliano, restoring the odyssey with the most intimate suggestions of thousands of migrants who, every day, flee from their land, in search of a possible future. Both evenings will end with a tasting of the gastronomic excellence of the area, with wines from local wineries and typical products from Cilento, and beyond. Free admission.
